While my technique has improved since then, I’m still proud because it was my first real job as an illustrator. I created a cohesive narrative on the seat and backboard; which taught me to follow a creative brief and use my visual voice to knock it out of the park. The company even got Paul McCartney to see it and autograph it. To this day it’s the most expensive commission I’ve completed as it auctioned for $30,000. The money went back into the program and I couldn’t be happier to have contributed to something that helps thousands of children in my city. I decided to focus on the importance of protecting coral reefs. There is often too much doom and gloom in calling people to action, so my approach aims to highlight the beauty and wonder that nature contains through the use of bright colors and graphic textures. I also thought it was important to incorporate the kinds of life that inhabit the coral reef to use the stamps as a vehicle to educate. Stories also say it has the tail of a peacock.
